The Legal Help for Homeowners Project is a new program of Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc., funded by a grant from the Illinois Attorney General under the national bank foreclosure settlement. The Project provides free legal help to homeowners in danger of losing their homes, including those who are already in foreclosure, as well as those who are behind on or struggling to make their payments but not yet in foreclosure.
Project attorneys may provide a range of services based on each homeowner’s situation, such as:
- advice and budget counseling
- assistance with mortgage modification
- legal representation in the foreclosure
Under this new program, Land of Lincoln can help homeowners with income above its usual limits. For example, a family of four earning up to $60,000 may qualify.
